Cinderella (French: Cendrillon, German: Aschenputtel, Spanish: Cenicienta, Italian: Cenerentola), is a well-known classic folk tale.
The story has an element of unjust oppression and the eventual triumphant victory. Good is always rewarded. There are thousands of variants to the story, most of which are in foreign languages. In all variants, the main character is a young woman who lives in unfortunate circumstances and hardship. All of a sudden her luck changes, gets help from someone special, and is presented with remarkable fortune.
To most people, the name “Cinderella” now means someone who has gone unrecognized for a long time and unexpectedly receives recognition by someone important after a long period of neglect. The story of Cinderella continues to be popular in many countries and influence many people. It has been featured in many media, in particular in the famous Disney Cinderella movies.
